The Journey
In 2018, when we opened Studio 360 as a jiu-jitsu gym, we never envisioned it would turn into what it has become.
I have worked at and managed previous gyms in the past as a coach, head instructor, and office manager. Coach Mike and I told ourselves we were going to start smart and small; we saw the overzealous beginnings of others and the stress caused. We decided to take the let it build and grow organically approach.
We started in a 900-square-foot space upstairs in an office building off 2nd Street. Our first core group of members will always hold a special place.
Soon after, we were able to have the Williamsburg Judo Club join us. We were excited to have another art to offer and with high-level instruction. The Judo program has been a steady and consistent class.
A few years later, after being asked about Thai Boxing classes, we decided to add those classes, which have brought in another amazing group of students and coaches.
As we've grown, we've continuously looked for other ideas to expand our training, class offerings, and opportunities for coaches. We recently opened a women's-only Jiu-Jitsu class following our self-defense courses for the past couple of years and are starting a homeschool martial arts class this fall.
Reflecting on the past 8 years of Studio 360 and gym ownership, I am so glad that we were able to begin this journey here in Williamsburg, in the community we call home. I'm excited to see what else is in store.
