Youth/Teen Belt Requirements

Please note that these are ONLY a guideline, knowing requirements higher than your belt level does not mean you are ready for the next belt.

  • We follow the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and International Judo Association Belt structure. It is typically 4 months between promotions for youth, bearing all the other factors.

  • We do not host belt promotions currently on any time schedule

  • Belt promotions are based on more than just showing up for class, or being able to “submit everyone”. We look at the full picture, class attendance, technique, sportsmanship, and willingness to learn and help others.

  • Everyone gets promoted at their own pace to their abilities. Do not judge your belt ranking against other individuals. This is your Jiu-Jitsu path, your journey, only you can figure out where you go with it.

  • Belt rankings do not come quickly as they do in other arts. BJJ and Judo take time, perseverance and patience

  • Teens move into adult belt ranking at age 16 (teens must also be 13 or older to receive any green belt)
